Without question one of the luxuries of living both at AVEN and in Los Angeles is how accessible vegan restaurants are. Whether you lead a vegan lifestyle or not, here are the top 5 restaurants serving up the best vegan dishes in Downtown LA.
First up is Au Lac. Located on 710 W 1st St., Au Lac is serving up the best vegan Vietnamese dishes. Entirely plant-based, their menu also includes tons of gluten-free options. Best of all, all sorts of proteins here are made vegan. That includes “shrimp,” “chicken parmesan,” and “lasagna.” That in mind, we cannot get enough of their Fried Pepper Shrimp and Curried Rice. Open daily from 12 PM to 10 PM every dish is flavorful, organic, and 100% vegan.
THE VEGAN JOINT
If you are looking for a great vegan spot for breakfast or brunch, then make your way over to The Vegan Joint. Open from 9 AM to 4 PM they have the most incredible breakfast burrito. You also cannot go wrong with their spicy mint noodles. A very eclectic menu, all cuisines are considered. That includes their vegan nachos and dumplings.
THE LOCALITA AND THE BADASSERIE
Then we have Localita & The Badasserie. Another great lunch spot, Localita & The Badasserie on 817 South Los Angeles St., is open from 9 AM to 3 PM. Serving up 100% vegan dishes, we recommend indulging in either their vegan chili dog or Reuben. Also, they are very dependable when you are in need of a juice or smoothie.
In the Arts District on 300 S Santa Fe Ave. is our next vegan restaurant, known as Cafe Gratitude. The unique thing about Cafe Gratitude is that it is a collection of a number of plant-based restaurants. Specializing in gourmet cuisines, Cafe Gratitude also serves environmentally safe products. After joining forces with The Detox Market, their website offers the essentials. From bamboo toothbrushes to all natural sunscreens, The Detox Market is perfect for all you neighbors living life sustainably. Now for their menu. Their house BLT with coconut bacon is a must-have. They also have a great key lime pie.
Last up on our top 5 list of vegan restaurants is Beelman’s on 600 S Spring St. Of all the restaurants mentioned, this is the only one that serves dishes for both vegans and non-vegans. So, anyone looking to dine out with non-vegan friends, Beelman’s is the spot for you. It is also a pub! That means it is open late and is a great, chic spot to wine, dine, and watch a game. Now for their best vegan dishes. We highly suggest getting their Loco Moco Bowl or their Viet Nom Nom Wrap.
As you can see, dining out as a vegan near AVEN is incredibly easy. Whether it be a full-on vegan restaurant or a spot that includes some iconic vegan dishes, the options are endless for all you vegan AVEN neighbors. ENJOY!
